Onychomycosis is the disease accounting for more than half of all instances of nail disfigurement. It appears as onychodystrophy or a change in the appearance of one or more fingernails or toenails. According to studies, prevalence ranges from 2% to 18% of the population. Toenails are affected more often than fingernails. Onychomycosis is treated with oral antifungal drugs (undecenoic acid, azoles and occasionally allylamines) for 2 to 18 months. These drugs can cause liver damage, kidney failure, anemia, thrombocytopenia, neutropenia, gastrointestinal disorders and alopecia.

Nowadays, Fotona laser is one of the leading and highly recognized, and revolutionary treatments for skincare as well as onychomycosis. It is a simple and effective procedure that uses Neodymium or Erbium:YAG laser to act to the depths of the damaged nail and the underlying skin, weakening and eliminating the fungus that has invaded the patient’s nail. The laser is done in 3 simple steps: thinning the nail, administering the laser in a circular shape, place the laser in peripheral areas of the nail and fingers. The Fotona laser is a painless treatment with no side effects, allowing fast and safe recovery compared to traditional therapies. Hence, onychomycosis treatment with Fotona laser is a simple and effective potential treatment without any potential hazard.
